Engaging the Public for 8 Years
Over 150 events and counting…
I have been fortunate to be a science communicator and inspirational storyteller that has been a panelist, speaker, actor, interviewee, and keynote at many venues. It has enabled me to talk about the value of space exploration, believing in yourself, and contributing positivity to the world to a wide audience. Whether it be students, teachers, professionals, space enthusiasts, makers, or the general public — my aim is to show that space is, and any dreams we may have are, within our reach. I have worked with large brands such as Nike and LEGO, universities and K-12 worldwide, non-profits, and government institutions. Highlighted institutions are:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Arizona State University
Tokyo University
National Girl Scout STEM Festival
Creating Space for Good, at NASA and Beyond
This feature in the MIT Alumni Slice of MIT publication highlights how NASA and MIT put me on the path to volunteering and giving back to the community.
PBS SciGirls
Find out how you can do community science right from home by watching the girls and I on the "Super Sensors" episode of PBS Scigirls! On this episode expect to learn more about my job operating instruments in space and how you can build sensors to monitor the wildlife in your own backyard.
Instrumental: Engineers Who Make Science Possible
This talk was given live as part of JPL’s Von Karman lecture series. I share information about the Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA) mission which will allow public health officials to map particulate matter around the world, understand its effect on diseases, and know where the most risk is.
Community Outreach
I have volunteered with many organizations throughout my career that aim to highlight, encourage, and award growth, ingenuity, and excellence in STEM. The following are organizations that I have donated substantial time to supporting due to the alignment of those beliefs:
The National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications - Committee Member
Glendale & Pasadena YWCA - Subsidiary Board Member & STEAM Advisor
Engaging Girls in STEM - Ambassador & Planning Committee Member
