Let’s Inspire the Future of Space from Japan
私は ジャネル ウェロンズ
Hello (こんにちは), my name is Janelle Wellons and I am an alumna of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. What I never knew is that this would spark a career operating science instruments and spacecraft at the Moon, Saturn, and our own planet Earth. Currently I am a Flight Director working on lunar missions at a space company located in Tokyo, Japan, a place I now call home.
Formerly, I worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory as an operations engineer for missions such as Cassini, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, the Multi-Angel Imager for Aerosols, and more.
I’m an adventurer that loves to explore the wonders of the universe which includes our own planet Earth. While I am not operating spacecraft, you can find me in the great outdoors, experiencing new cultures, delving into the fantastical worlds of fiction, playing video games, watching anime, and enjoying the depths of our oceans and sea-life.
It is my mission to positively shape the future of STEM and help those traditionally underrepresented flourish and build the confidence they need to reach beyond the stars.
Chasing Stars and Defying Gravity
I never thought that I would find myself speaking to middle school students in Tokyo, Japan about chasing their dreams and pursuing careers in space but that is where this journey has brought me!

NewSpace Europe Keynote
A talk I gave in Luxembourg about what it means to be an operations engineer working on a journey to the Moon!
LEGO Build to Launch Series
I loved being part of this LEGO Build to Launch series that aims to introduce students to the concepts and engineers behind missions like Artemis that will take us back to the Moon!
